IUI Success: A success against infertility

The Intrauterine insemination (IUI) or otherwise called Artificial insemination is the process where sperm is being injected into the uterus to stimulate the pregnancy chances. IUI works out and useful when unexplained fertility is seen among the couple and for women who are in the process of conceiving after their 35 to 40 years of age, to whom the possibility of pregnancy is very less. The question of Infertility is being answered with the help of medical technology through IUI.

Responsibilities against IUI Success

The IUI Success completely depends upon few responsibilities both from the medical team and from the father and the mother. These responsibilities include initiating the timing of IUI, realizing right period of sperm collection, awareness need to be known after IUI among the father and mother. Only with all these responsibilities the IUI becomes successful over the infertility.

IUI Success

IUI needs proper timing – Ovulation period in the mother is the right time for the IUI. The collected best sperm from the husband is been injected into the mother’s uterus using a catheter during the right ovulation period. Timing is the major factor responsible for IUI success.

Separating the best sperm – The sperm is collected from the husband and the best sperm is being separated out the active sperms and physicians make it ready for insemination through sperm wash method.

Procedure involved in IUI – The physician collects the washed sperm into the catheter and introduces the sperm into vagiutna and cervix which enters the uterus. The process takes about only 2 minutes of time and IUI is done.

Instructions to the father and mother after IUI – The mother can return to normal days work after IUI. There is no special care or bed rest needed after the IUI.

Factors determining the IUI success rate

The IUI success rate is determined by certain factors. It includes the sperm counts in men. If the men has normal sperm count the success rate would be high whereas with a lower sperm would result in lesser success rate. With female, the success rate depends upon their age, if she is above the age of 35 the pregnancy chance seems to be in lesser rate. The treatment cycles is another factor determining IUI, treatment in one cycle gives 10 – 15% of chance in conceiving and if it stretches to 4 treatment cycles the chance is of 50%. If still the female pregnancy chance didn’t work out of all these 4 cycles, the chance can be considered as null and can proceed with further way of treatment in getting fertility.

It is little difficult to study the IUI Success rates as some of the studies portray the result with 8% of success rate and some shows it up to 20% of success rate. The reason for success rate variation is that it depends on age and cause of infertility.

IUI treatment would be a success for men with less severe infertility problems and for the female within the age limit of 35. The IUI even though it is a simple and inexpensive form of treatment, becomes a success based on the severity of couple’s infertility problem.
